Look around, what do you see? Look up, there is just vastness. Look down, land and sea all providing for mankind. Yet, the question being asked is, does the universe and all that is in it come by the activity of a Creator - God or just by chance?
The danger is, to try and be too detailed and scientific about this. A simple approach is all that is required.
Wherever you look, you see design. Whatever natural thing you touch is part of that design. With that design comes precision, ecosystems. All major ecosystems derive the energy that supports life from plants. Plants convert sunlight, water and carbon dioxide from the air into carbohydrates such as starches and sugars.

They are the primary producers of an ecosystem. The primary consumers are the animals that eat only plants. Secondary and higher-level consumers eat other animals. A system that functions and keeps the world and all its inhabitants living. You cannot have one without the other. Did this all happen by chance or something similar?
Take a watch, open the back, what do you see? It has a design, so there must be a Designer. Lots of different parts. They have all come together and when the last part is added, the watch works. Yet take just one small part out of the watch and it will fail to work.
This is how creation happened, first the design, secondly the parts fitted together in the right place, then it works and functions as it should. What are the odds on all those parts coming together on their own and it just works.
There are roughly 130 parts to a mechanical watch. We live in a world that functions with so many integral parts linked together, take one of these links away and it does not function.
The Bible, right at the beginning in the book of Genesis, tells us about what The Creator did. The record provides a simple factual account without giving details as to how it was accomplished, but is none the less believable, even in this scientific age. What must be noted in the Genesis record is the use of the words “KIND” and “KINDS”.
This seems to be describing a basic life form that can diversify while remaining within its type. With the application of human intelligence to breeding programmes, a wide variety of domesticated animals and plants have been and still are being bred within their kind. This is not evolution, but rather an expression of the great variation present in the genetic makeup of all life.

PSALM 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. |
To a creationist it is a simple fact that God created the earth and set in motion the physical laws that govern its behaviour.
It’s part of our nature to think about where we came from and how the world began.
There are so many things which are part of the design and structure, they are complex and therefore, are challenging to comprehend, but it functions to precision – a good reason to believe?
God has a plan, it is designed with precision, look at what he says in the book of Job, probably in the 6th century BC:
JOB 26:7-9 He (God) spreads out the northern skies over empty space; he suspends the earth over nothing. 8) He wraps up the waters in his clouds, yet the clouds do not burst under their weight. 9) He covers the face of the full moon, spreading his clouds over it. |
Let’s look at some of these aspects.
Take the Sun, you could fit something like 1.3 million earths inside it. It gives us an insight into precision and perfection. Yet precision is fundamental to Earth’s survival. It is 94 million miles from the earth. Yet, if that altered by a mere fraction the consequences would be disastrous. A minimal change - life would not exist. Likewise with a few % drop in temperature/energy all the oceans would freeze. If the sun was turned off, we would not know for 8 minutes. Basically, without the sun and where it is, earth would not exist, but did this happen by chance or is it the work of something powerful, a Creator with total precision. In the book of Job in the Bible, chapter 38, God issues a challenge to mankind: |
There are so many things that we depend on from the Sun:
|
This is an intriguing chapter about creation. The same question he asks to anyone – “Where were you…..?” When life is observed with the naked eye, microscopes and chemical probes, the impartial person is soon impressed by the evidence of ‘intelligent design’ and then goes on to realise that the complexity is such that chance cannot be the cause. Just look in your garden or out and about and see the beauty of God’s creation through nature. In particular, the world of plants. There is a lot more than their beauty and fragrant smell. So much more, in that we are even dependent on them. Photosynthesis - is a process that helps plants make their food.
Green plants and some other organisms use sunlight to synthesize nutrients from carbon dioxide and water. Photosynthesis in plants generally involves the green pigment chlorophyll and generates oxygen as a by-product. (See also under the Sun). This is important because all living things on the planet require oxygen to survive. Another aspect of this is Pollination. It is a vital stage in the life cycle of all flowering plants. When pollen is moved within a flower or carried from one flower to another of the same species it leads to fertilization. This transfer of pollen is necessary for healthy and productive native & agricultural ecosystems. Why are pollinators important? Pollinators are often keystone species, meaning that they are critical to an ecosystem. The work of pollinators ensures full harvests of crops and contributes to healthy plants everywhere. Could this have just happened or does it demonstrate design? The very first book and words of the Bible clearly states: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” |
Plant LifeThere are over 300,000 species in the world. Only 150 species are regularly cultivated. 30 of these products make up 95% of the human’s usual calorie and protein intake. About 80,000 plant species are edible. Over 70,000 plant species are medicinal. Pollination
About 75% of all flowering plant species need the help of animals to move their heavy pollen grains from plant to plant for fertilization. About 1,000 of all pollinators are vertebrates such as birds, bats, and small mammals. Most pollinators (about 200,000 species) are beneficial insects such as flies, beetles, wasps, ants, butterflies, moths, and bees. An estimated 1/3 of all foods and beverages are delivered by pollinators. |
So why not believe in God, the great Designer, Creator and Sustainer of all we see around us?
This answer and its content, may lead to other questions like:
How did we get here?
Why are we here?
Is there more to life than mere existence?
Is there life after death?
